Bespoke Reflex Integration Programme
(For children aged 7+ years)
Every child is born with a set of primitive reflexes. These develop within the womb and are essential in the birthing process, help the newborn take its first breath and support its early survival. They instinctively enable us to perform certain tasks such as feeding, grasping, responding to danger, lifting our head, rolling, crawling, standing and eventually walking.
All being well, the primitive reflexes should be fully inhibited by the age of one. If these reflexes are not suppressed in the first year, they can interfere with subsequent motor development, visual functioning needed for reading, eye-hand co-ordination needed for writing, and perceptual skills.
While there can be many social and educational reasons for specific learning difficulties, physical abilities underpin every aspect of learning from eye movement needed for reading, hand-eye co-ordination for writing, sequencing for learning tables, days of the week, months of the year etc. and spatial awareness involved in solving certain mathematical problems and for social interactions. When these problems are corrected, children can start to not only achieve, but thrive.

What does the programme involve?
There are a range of programmes, to suit the various needs of the child. Each programme involves carrying out physical exercises every day based on the natural movements normally made during the first year(s) of life. The exercises help to improve balance, posture, co-ordination and control of the eye movements which support a child's general development and progress in school. The programme takes 5-10 minutes a day over the course of approximately one year. Progress is reviewed at 4-8 weekly intervals and the exercises adapted according to progress.
